go back home

background: i found this. i opened it on my wii. there were no resources in the game and barely any online, and i couldn't find a manual scan. thankfully, a friend was able to show me pictures of her copy's manual. I brought this to locals, and we had a blast, and still play it regularly. I wanted to put up a quick post with an explanation of the controls and some gameplay footage so other people can get started with this absolute masterpiece. This video is an hour or so of labbing/pvp gameplay from one of our locals.

Installation:

grab the iso, drop it on an SD card, and load up whatever wii app loader you prefer. Vimm's has a copy of it last time I checked, but with nintendo, who knows. I'm sure you can find it if you ask around (wink wink)

Control Methods:

There are three ways to control it, and two are objectively incorrect.

1. You can use a gamecube controller. It supports rebinding, and it's actually kind of neat.

2. You can use a wii classic controller, or something like the HORI Wii Arcade stick.

3. You can use a wiimote and nunchuk. This is the correct way to play the game. It has motion controls!

What you're here for: The Nunchuk.

The Wii remote's dpad is p/k/s/h. a is dust, and + and - are used to navigate menus. 1 and 2 are taunt and respect, respectively, and using the nunchuk allows you to move and do motion inputs. However, the fun part is as follows: by shaking the wii remote either a little or a lot, you can get slash or heavy slash, and by shaking the nunchuk a little or a lot, you can get punch or kick.

Additionally, by holding either C or Z on the nunchuk and shaking either the wiimote or nunchuk, you can do one of four special moves that vary from character to character. You can also do motion inputs, but doing motion inputs on a nunchuk is challenging and doing them instead of having the joy and whimsy in your heart to shake the wiimote is emblematic of severe moral failing.

To do overdrives, you hold C and Z and shake the wiimote or the nunchuk. Force breaks are done by holding B and shaking the wiimote. Activating IK mode is done by holding C, Z, and B, and shaking the nunchuk, and doing your IK is done by holding C/Z/B and shaking the wiimote.

If you go into training mode, you will see that these specials don't log as inputs in the reader. You can Probably do some freaky shit with eddie taking advantage of this, but doing motion inputs on the nunchuk is so miserable that neither I nor any of my friends have attempted this.

Fun quirks of this mode we've noticed

Given the challenge of doing motion inputs, potemkin is set aside by the ability to do pot buster by holding Z and shaking the wiimote. This means that when, not if, your opponent makes a movement at close range in error trying to do something they can do on their stick on the nunchuk, you can pot buster them for it easily.

May is spared from having to do charge inputs on the nunchuk by having horizontal AND vertical Mr. Dolphin done by shaking either the wiimote or the nunchuk while holding C. It's fucked up, and, because the dolphins are in the air, is one of the few things that can easily and consistently filter potemkin Just Sitting There.

I adore sol in this mode- He has HVV on a shake input, along with grand viper and gunflame, meaning he can easily control space and put out decent damage without having to do real motion inputs. Unfortunately, he can't do wild throw with a motion input, but the fact that shaking the wiimote is HS means that it is very easy to play straightforward strike/throw, along with dragon install actually being useful in this mode.

If you have any questions or want to contribute to this page, feel free to reach out to me! email [email protected], on bsky @nyxiadash.net, or @nyxiadash on most other socials. In theory I would like to add a table of inputs but I think figuring out what each character has is an activity best discovered while mashing with your friends, so I'm in no real rush.
